An older friend could both understand and reassure you that it will soon be over and that you can make this last hurdle.

This could lead to you being accused of skating on thin ice by someone who's a stickler of punctuality and professionalism. You might need to remind yourself how much they need you and how valuable your emotional investment to a new project would be to others. There's always the possibility too of joining forces with someone who has the required energy and skills.
